East-West Line Resumes Dec 8 — One Day Earlier Than Planned

Great news for East-West Line commuters: Train services between Bedok and Tampines, as well as Tanah Merah and Expo, will resume on December 8, 2025 from the start of passenger service hours — one day ahead of the original schedule.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced this positive development in a Facebook post on December 7, confirming that the construction works for the new East Coast Integrated Depot (ECID) connection have been completed ahead of schedule.

Construction Works Completed Early

LTA confirmed that new tracks have been successfully laid to connect the East-West Line to the ECID and to the new platform at Tanah Merah station.

"We've completed comprehensive testing, including safety and ultrasonic checks on the tracks, power supply, and train signalling systems," LTA stated in their announcement.

The successful completion of these tests has enabled the early resumption of services, benefiting the thousands of commuters who rely on this stretch of the East-West Line for their daily travel.

What Changed

Several stations along the EWL, between Bedok and Expo, were closed since November 29 to facilitate construction works in preparation for the opening of the new East Coast Integrated Depot.

Over more than a week, 880 LTA and SMRT engineers and contractors worked around the clock on three main tasks:

  • Removal: Taking out existing trackside components, including rail panels and signalling equipment
  • Reconnection: Installing new trackside components and creating a new junction leading to the new depot
  • Testing: Conducting comprehensive testing of newly installed equipment

New Platform Layout at Tanah Merah

From December 8, commuters should note the following changes at Tanah Merah station:

  • Eastbound EWL services towards Pasir Ris will now operate from the new Platform A
  • Passengers heading towards Changi Airport will need to use the concourse level to transfer between platforms
  • New signage has been installed to guide commuters on the platform changes

The new layout accommodates the future Thomson-East Coast Line extension, which will share the tracks to Changi Airport in the mid-2030s.

Free Shuttle Bus Services End

With the resumption of normal train services, the free shuttle bus services (Shuttle 7 between Bedok and Tampines, and Shuttle 8 between Bedok and Expo) that were operating during the closure period will cease operations.

LTA thanked commuters for their patience and understanding during the service adjustment period.
