Alternative MRT Routes During EWL Closure: Downtown Line & Circle Line Options
During the EWL closure from November 29 to December 8, 2025, consider using alternative MRT lines to avoid shuttle buses and reduced frequencies.
LTA has deployed more trains on the Downtown Line during peak hours to accommodate commuters during the closure.
🚇 Downtown Line (DTL) - Your Best Friend
The Downtown Line runs parallel to parts of the EWL and connects key stations:

Instead of: EWL through closed section
Use: Train to Expo (CG1) → DTL to Downtown/Telok Ayer
✅ Direct to Marina Bay Financial District
From West to Tampines
Instead of: EWL + Shuttle Bus
Use: EWL to Bugis → DTL to Tampines (DT32)

🔵 Circle Line (CCL) Options
Circle Line connects at Paya Lebar (CC9) with EWL:
- Use CCL to bypass the affected section via different interchanges
- Connect to DTL at Promenade (CC4/DT15)
- Connect to NEL at Serangoon (CC13/NE12)
🚌 Regular Bus Services
LTA also recommends using existing public bus services to connect to alternative MRT lines:
- Bus 2, 9, 12, 14, 24, 38 operate between affected areas
- Same fare as normal public bus services
