EWL MRT Closure Nov 29 - Dec 8: Bedok to Tampines & Tanah Merah to Expo Train Service Suspended

From November 29 to December 8, 2025, East West Line (EWL) train services will be suspended between Bedok and Tampines and between Tanah Merah and Expo to facilitate construction works for the new East Coast Integrated Depot (ECID).

⚠️ Affected Stations (No Train Service):

  • Bedok (EW5) - No eastbound trains to Tampines
  • Tanah Merah (EW4) - Station closed for through service
  • Simei (EW3) - Station closed for through service
  • Tampines (EW2) - No westbound trains to Bedok
  • Expo (CG1) - No trains to Tanah Merah

Why Is This Happening?

The 10-day closure is necessary to:

  • Connect the new East Coast Integrated Depot (ECID) to the existing EWL tracks
  • Build a new platform at Tanah Merah station for the future Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) extension

🚌 Free Shuttle Bus Services

LTA and SMRT are providing 79 shuttle buses to maintain connectivity:

Shuttle 7: Bedok ↔ Tampines

  • Route: Bedok → Tanah Merah → Simei → Tampines (and reverse)
  • Frequency: Every 3-5 minutes
  • Use for: Travel between Simei/Tanah Merah and the west/city

Shuttle 8: Bedok ↔ Expo

  • Route: Bedok → Tanah Merah → Expo
  • Frequency: Every 10 minutes
  • Use for: Travel to Changi Airport via Expo

🚇 Reduced Train Frequencies

Shuttle trains will operate at reduced frequencies in these sections:

⏱️ Allow Extra Travel Time

LTA advises commuters that journey times may take up to 30 minutes longer than usual. Plan your journey accordingly.

Alternative MRT Routes

Consider using:

  • Downtown Line (DTL) - Via Tampines (DT32), Bedok North, Bedok Reservoir. More trains deployed during peak hours.
  • Circle Line (CCL) - Via Paya Lebar interchange
